Finding a Home in Manayunk

Philadelphia is a historic city that offers a little bit of culture, dinning, entertainment, and above all affordable housing – be it renting or buying, your dollar will go farther when buying a house in Philadelphia .  What part of the city and what to know is the important part; the tough part is deciding which neighborhood is best for you; so here are some tips and reasons why to choose a house in the Manayunk-Roxborough section of Philadelphia.

Since you already decided to live in Philadelphia, you probably know that for being the fifth largest city in the country, it is surprisingly affordable for its size and statue.  Most large cities in populous areas command higher rents and much higher home prices – excluding of course mid west cities that are traditionally lower in price and value. 

So choosing an area of the city is a tough decision, but can be made easier with certain facts in front of you.  First and foremost with anything that you do, you want to feel safe; the Manayunk-Roxborough area of the city is the safest neighborhood statistically in the entire urban area.  Actually Roxborough is a little safer, but that is mostly because it lacks the nightlife that Manayunk possess.  Being that safety is a top concern, you have nothing to worry about in this area. 

Next you want a trusted realtor who actually lives and works in Manayunk or Roxborough. (Note – the author pairs these two neighborhoods together because they share boundaries and are almost considered one large area.)  Be aware that since Manayunk gained popularity in the 1990’s many outside realtors have taken advantage of this popularity and now show houses in this section of the city.  However, these realtors have very little knowledge of the streets, micro areas, houses, constructions or every day happenings in the two towns (two towns meaning Roxborough and Manayunk).  So if you’re going to buy a house or even rent – you should have a realtor who is local to the area.  Look and see where the realtor’s office is located, find out if they live in the area, and question their knowledge.  Some realtors, who do not live in the area, will still profess a vast knowledge of it, but in the end, they are not there everyday and do not have the same advantages of a local realtor.

So now that you know the area has a good nightlife, you know that it is safe, and you know that it is one of the most affordable areas in the city, you then just have to remember to stay local when choosing a realtor.  It makes sense, it can actually save you money and time, and it gives you an advantage because you are tapping knowledge from a professional who is based in the area that you want to be in.  In other words, if you were buying a house down the shore, you would want a realtor who is located there, they would have the knowledge of that area, so if you’re buying a house in Manayunk or Roxborough, you would do the same – it only makes sense.  If you’re renting or buying, it is getting to be a good time to make that move, so good luck and stay local with your decisions.
